Gawad Kalinga at Shell Open Week
By: Alaine Figueras

Shell Business Operations-Manila (SBO-Manila) is Shell’s largest Business Operations across the globe. Around 3,000 employees are currently behind the achievements of the company. Acknowledging the amount of work they have been putting within the workplace, SBO-Manila thought of organizing an event that would make them more comfortable about other Shell products that contribute to the country’s economic and social progress.

Shell Open Week is an initiative by SBO-Manila which aimed to raise awareness among its employees about different Shell products and services. It was a week-long event that run from June 13-17, 2016. Gawad Kalinga was given the privilege to showcase its partnership with Shell by having a special booth under the Social Investment Department.

The Country Chairman Mr. Ed Chua, gracing the opening of the event.

It was a great opportunity to introduce GK and GK Enchanted Farm. Sign-up sheets inspired hundreds of SBO-Manila employees to be one with GK’s mission of ending poverty for 5 million families. Flyers were also available to create awareness on other GK Programs such as Kusina ng Kalinga. Anne Kamatis, Manny Pakwan, Buko Martin, and the rest of the gang from Plush and Play were also present to encourage people about social enterprises where they were born. Kabutehan and Bayani Brew also tagged along to invite everyone to come visit GK Enchanted Farm too!

Some of the projects under Shell-GK partnership were proudly presented at The Gallery, alongside various Shell successes and activities.

July 1, 2016 – SBO-Manila was represented by Adrian Navarro, Kashka Tobias, and Jourdane Hornilla while GK was represented by Mike Goco and Alaine Figueras.

With the event’s high turnout of employee participation, SBO-Manila generously donated Php 100,000 for our Operation Walang Iwanan: Kusina ng Kalinga campaign. The campaign actively addresses hunger which is being experienced by children and families in El Niño-affected areas in Mindanao. Thank you, SBO-Manila!
