The Effect of Yolanda on EB Magalona

[Date Created: February 17, 2014]

When Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) hit the island of Negros last November, everyone was caught off guard. The damage caused by Yolanda's winds blew roofs away and damaged so much infrastructure. In the town of E.B. Magalona, a GK village can be found. 3 houses were greatly damaged as they lost their roofs and windows. 4 houses had minimal damage and their makeshift Multipurpose Hall (MPH) and chapel were damaged as well.

While the 23 families who live in the Haydee Yorac GK Village were slightly shaken by the extent of the damage and the strength of the storm, they were still better off than their neighbors, whose houses were made of light materials. Other areas in Negros Occidental were also badly damaged, especially the coastal barangays.
