COMMUNITIES IN NUEVA ECIJA

GK Bakod Bayan
GK COMMUNITY
Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija
$0The Beneficiaries came from Barangay Valle Cruz, it is one of the many barangays of Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija with a number of landless families with their house constructed on the land of  other persons. These homes are mostly built along side of the road, opposite the garbage dumpsite of the city. The barangay is consisting of about 100 families or approximately 400 individuals. Most of the residents are squatting in the area for about 15 years. Houses are made of scrap and light materials: walls are from rusted sheets or rice sacks or cartons, roofs are made of rusty corrugated G.I. sheets with tires on top, floors are mud sometimes with damaged vinyl covers, some of them have toilets which the others share.  Source of living is scavenging or what they call “kalahig”, water supply is available but since they have no source to pay for the installation they buy  drinking water. The hope of having brighter future through higher education is not part of their dream. Some of them are contented with elementary and high school education.  Out of school children also help their parents working to increase the family's income.$0$0For 15 years, they were praying and seeking for any solutions to end their problem.  The good news of Gawad Kalinga gave them hope. After they have learned that GK is now in their place, many are thankful to GOD waking up with a smile and hope of better days to come. $0$0The Land was donated by Ms. Letty Uy and Family. To date, the village is complete with houses, a sibol school (pre-school), basketball court & a Bayan-Anihan farm that were built in partnership with College of the Immaculate Conception, Ragojos family, CFC Hercules from USA,Rotary Club of Cabanatuan City & private individuals that generously give support to the community.$0
