Bayani Challenge Past Events

The Bayani Challenge is an annual GK event that gathers teams of GK volunteers from all over the Philippines and the world, to come together in the spirit of heroism and bayanihan to build an entire community within 5 days in areas that are in most need of care:

2006: The Bayani Challenge was born from a heroic response of GK volunteers who came to help re-build the lives of the victims of the tragic mudslide in Ginsaugon, St. Bernard, Southern Leyte. Many responded to the call to bring hope and build new homes for the poor families in this first-ever Bayani Challenge.

2007: About 3,000 GK volunteers comprising of more than 230 teams built homes for 230 families in the typhoon devastated provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and Marinduque. They brought home with them new found friendships and a renewed hope that their beloved country will soon rise from poverty through the extraordinary efforts of ordinary citizens like them.

2008: Caring for the needs of our neglected Muslim brothers and sisters, more than 50 teams traveled to Mindanao to bring care to poor Muslim families and restore friendship between Christians and Muslims by building together at 5 GK sites in Bukidnon and Wao, Lanao del Sur. Vice President Noli de Castro graced the week-long event, attended by people from all walks of life.

2009: GK bravely journeyed to Sulu and Zamboanga last April 13, 2009 on Easter Sunday to bring glad tidings to poor Muslims in the province caught in poverty and unrest. This Bayani Challenge dubbed as “Only for the Brave” saw 300 GK volunteers courageously sowing the seeds of peace, building homes for the Tausugs at Panglima Estino.

In Tulungatung, Zamboanga province, 500 GK volunteers built 62 homes alongside their Muslim brothers and sisters, restoring broken relationships and inspiring one another. The builders in Zamboanga and Sulu came from all over the Philippines, United States, Australia and Singapore.

2010: With the growing concern of environmental degradation and global warming, GK volunteers will help save Mother Earth by caring for the poor while helping them protect their environment. You can help save the environment and the poor at the same time by helping build 100 GK homes for 100 Palau'an families amidst the backdrop of beautiful Palawan. Come and Explore, Build and Protect
